Friday and is taking aim for areas over the central and southern
Plains this weekend. In some areas where snow is falling,
temperatures are nearly 40 degrees lower than Thursday. The snow
extends all the way to northern Iowa and western Wisconsin as of the
mid-afternoon. Rain was falling along the leading edge of the snow
area, but also extended to northern Lake Huron and southern Arizona.
A few pockets of snow lingered over the northern Rockies, while
spotty showers and thunderstorms were developing over West Texas.
Dry, pleasant, sunny conditions prevailed along the Atlantic Seaboard
and around the Gulf Coast. Dry weather and sunshine were plentiful
over the West Coast states.

SPECIAL WEATHER

Anniversary of Potent March Storm in the Northeast...

A storm on par with storms of this past winter rolled up the
Atlantic Seaboard with drenching rain and very wet snow in the
mid-Atlantic and New England spanning March 19-22, 1958. Close to a
foot of snow trapped 800 people in a restaurant near Morgantown, Pa.
along the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Up to 50 inches of snow fell in the
Appalachian Mountains from the storm. From 3 to 5 inches of rain fell
along the coast. The storm claimed the lives of 49 people and led to
massive power outages.
