Ken Segner of Sheffield Lanes stole the show with a 300 game, an 823 three-game series and a 1,061 four-game series at Baden Bowl in the second session of the Pittsburgh Area Scratch Travel League.

The league, which started its season Oct. 5 at Swissvale Arcade Lanes, bowls at Plaza Lanes in Natrona Heights Sunday.

Segner rolled games of 256, 267, 300 and 238.

Rob Bolte of Rosedale Lanes and Layne Hurst of Lokay Lanes posted 299s.

Bolte's three-game series was 796. Other top series were turned in by Ron Franceski (240/702), Beryl Miller Jr. (266/727), Harley Schultz (259/749), Chuck Becker (289/724), Mike Ewing (258/723), Scott Schreceng (257/724) and Joe Zeis Jr. (258/706).

Segner leads the league with a 265.25 average, followed by Mark Everette's 244.25 and Bob Janicki's 237.75.

Pines Plaza is in first place at 19-2, with Nesbits Lanes at 18-2 and Plaza Lanes, Brunswick Playmor and Baden Bowl all 16-4.

Scholastic stars

The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Bowling League, which has expanded to a record 30 teams, will be split into five sections with league play starting Dec. 3.

The sections are:

North -- North Allegheny, North Hills, Hopewell, Quaker Valley, Ambridge and Our Lady of Sacred the Heart on Coraopolis.

Southwest -- West Allegheny, Moon, Montour, Carlynton, Chartiers Valley and Canon- McMillan.

East -- Greensburg Central Catholic, Greensburg Salem, Hempfield, Franklin Regional, Penn-Trafford and South Allegheny.

North East -- St. Joseph Natrona, Penn Hills, Plum, Woodland Hills, Central Catholic/Oakland Catholic.

Central -- Baldwin, West Mifflin, Bishop Canevin, Allderdice, Langley and Seton-LaSalle.

Chris Ciamarra threw a 300 in the Sandbaggers League at New Great Valley Lanes.

Steve Padgelek tossed a 300 and 717 series in the Coors Light Players League at AMF Noble Manor Lanes.

Chuck Maniccia's 300/762 grabbed the headlines in the Pastiriks League at North Versailles Bowling Center. Nate Wislosky had a 300/751 in the Pastiriks League and Rich Collier had a 300 in the Coors Light Doubles League.

On a roll

Rich Wahlster's 268/750 led the way in the Coors Light Players League at AMF Noble Manor Lanes.

Roy Clanagan had games of 290, 279 and 201 for a 770 in the Duquesne Dukes League at North Versailles Bowling Center.

Mike Chontos (265/769) and Jim Gallagher (279/764) were on the top of their games in the Thursday Men's Classic at Princess Lanes.

League leaders

John Fichter tops the Bud Lite $12,000 Classic League with a 227 average, followed by C.J. Caligiuri's 216 and Griff Williams' 219.

What's happening

There will be a regional qualifier in the ABC Teen Masters at New Great Valley Lanes, Saturday. The scratch singles competition, sanctioned by YABA, is open to youth bowlers who won't turn 19 until May 31, 2004. The entry fee for each of the 16 qualifiers is $89 if paid in advance and $99 at the site. Each bowler will roll six games with the top two finishers earning a berth in the championship finals at Olympic Lanes in Milwaukee, May 28-31. The players will be competing for scholarship money at the regionals and the finals.
