A Michigan fugitive was arrested Friday night after he left Allegheny General Hospital and walked into a North Side bar clad only in a hospital gown and with an intravenous needle still in his arm.
Elbert Lewis Thompson II, 20, was also wanted in Vandergrift when he was arrested Friday night, police said.
Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard said Mr. Thompson walked into Jr.'s Bar on Cedar Avenue. Someone there called 911 to report Mr. Thompson but he bolted as police arrived. He ran between some houses and tried to climb a wall.
After police had cornered him, he "became violent, moving in the direction of (an) officer," Ms. Richard said, and they Tasered him. He was transported back to Allegheny General Hospital and then turned over to Vandergrift police. It was unclear on what charges he was wanted on in Vandergrift.
Vandergrift police Chief Joseph Caporali did not return a message left for him Saturday night.
Mr. Thompson was wanted in Oakland County, Michigan on a felony warrant for armed robbery and for felony probation violations stemming from a weapons charge.
Ms. Richard said she did not know why he was initially in the hospital.
