Be one with the bunny

Tomorrow is the last day to register for the Easter egg hunt at Pine Community Park. It will be held March 27. Youngsters ages 1 through 9 will be divided into three age groups so everyone has a fair chance to find the goodies.

The hunt is free to Pine residents and $3 for others. To register, call 724-625-1636, ext. 3.

The program is being sponsored by the township, Bobby Rahal Automotive Group and Giant Eagle.

One night in Carlisle

Congratulations to the Providence Heights Alpha School Chess Team who took first place in the K-6 under 800 Section of the Pennsylvania State Chess Championship held over the weekend in Carlisle.

Sixth-grader Ian Tilton made Alpha chess history by receiving the first place individual state trophy out of 102 individuals, winning all five of his games.

Other individual honors were too numerous to mention here, but you can be sure pride in the team from McCandless is running high. Great work!

Threading through

North Pittsburgh Quilters Guild will be host to a show tomorrow through Sunday at Ross Township Community Center, 1000 Ross Municipal Drive.

More than 100 quilts will be on display, and 12 vendors from Pennsylvania and Ohio will offer items for sale.

An original quilt, made by guild members, will be raffled along with dream baskets and a sewing machine.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Be one with the sap

The Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania will celebrate maple tapping season with a pancake brunch and a guided "living history trek" through Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve, Dorseyville Road in Fox Chapel; one learns how sap becomes syrup. It's $6 per member; $10 for others. Register online at www.aswp.org or call 412-963-6100.
