Skates & Plates event raises funds for the Mario Lemieux Foundation and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Sidney Crosby served it up in Vancouver with the winning goal for gold for Canada at the Winter Olympics, but Tuesday night he was serving something different. As captain of the waitstaff during Skates & Plates at Carnegie Music Hall, he and his Penguins teammates served dinner to benefit the Mario Lemieux Foundation and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

"Do not say 'check please' to a hockey waiter," joked emcee Bob Pompeani of KDKA-TV as he introduced the players. Beforehand, VIP guests circulated with Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma (with Marybeth), Penguins CEO Ken Sawyer (with Shirley), Penguins president David Morehouse (with Vanessa) and Mario Lemieux Foundation chair Tom Grealish in the Hall of Architecture. There was no icing on the chocolate cheesecake or power play opportunities but plenty of time for Penguins to charm a nice chunk of change out of their customers. All of the players offered service with a smile including Evgeni Malkin, Brooks Orpik, Jordan Staal, Sergei Gonchar and Marc-Andre Fleury.
