Lady Gaga, Kings of Leon booked for local shows
Tuesday, March 16, 2010

It might not be the first concert at the Consol Energy Center, but it's the first announced for it.

Lady Gaga will bring her Monster Ball Tour to the new arena on Sept. 5, Live Nation announced Monday.

The Grammy-winning shock-pop queen is touring in support of "The Fame Monster," which was released in November and included the hit "Bad Romance."

"[It's] more of a musical and less of a concert," Lady Gaga said in a February interview with Ryan Seacrest. "It has a New York theme, it's a story, and the story is that me and my friends are in New York and we're going to the Monster Ball, and we get lost."

There are no details yet on ticket sales, just as there is no opening date set yet for the new Penguins arena. Arena officials are still finalizing plans for the opening event, which likely be a concert.

Steelers fans will recall that it was not the black and gold that christened Heinz Field. It was teen-pop group 'N Sync. Likewise, for Consol Energy, the hockey season doesn't usually start with preseason games until mid-September, so Lady Gaga will beat Sidney Crosby to the limelight.

Will someone beat her? Stay tuned.

Kings of Leon at Burgettstown

Rock band Kings of Leon will close its 32-date summer tour with a concert at the First Niagara Pavilion in Burgettstown on Sept. 7.

The Nashville band, which slowly worked its way up from the underground before breaking last year with the album "Only by the Night," recently won the Record of the Year Grammy for the song "Use Somebody."
