People in the News: Patti LaBalle calls some 'American Idol' judges unqualified
Friday, February 26, 2010

Patti LaBelle thinks some people shouldn't be on "American Idol" -- and she's not talking about the contestants.

"Some of the judges, I don't think they're qualified to even judge," she said in an interview Wednesday.

The veteran R&B diva wouldn't say which judge she thought was lacking on the hit Fox show, which has Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi and Ellen DeGeneres picking America's top singers. Tuesday's "Idol" episode saw 12 female semifinalists competing, with the male semifinalists taking the stage Wednesday.

LaBelle said she was asked to be a judge on the series before Paula Abdul; a rep for the show had no comment on whether she was. LaBelle feels like the judges' comments to the contestants are too mean.

"The comments that were made, they could make you, like, wanna kill yourself," the 65-year-old singer said.

LaBelle's advice to singing hopefuls: "If you believe in yourself, just go for it. What do you have to lose? And when people tell you, 'You can't,' you have to say, 'I can.' "

A Florida woman has sued rapper 50 Cent in New York City, claiming he unlawfully distributed her homemade sex video over the Internet after editing himself into it as a wig-wearing narrator.

Lastonia Leviston filed a lawsuit Wednesday in Manhattan claiming unauthorized use of her name or image and emotional distress caused by the public release of a video she made with a lover in 2008.

The lawsuit claims 50 Cent posted the video on his website last year after blurring out the lover's face. It also claims the rapper appears in the video wearing a wig and robe and can be heard narrating throughout.

The rapper's real name is Curtis Jackson. His lawyer hasn't responded to a request for a comment.

Adrian Pasdar has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor drunken driving charge.

The actor entered the plea through his lawyer and did not attend a court hearing Wednesday. His case is scheduled for a pretrial hearing March 15.

He was arrested Jan. 27 after authorities say they spotted the 44-year-old swerving and speeding on a Los Angeles freeway.

Pasdar plays Nathan Petrelli on the NBC show "Heroes." He is married to Dixie Chicks singer Natalie Maines.

Pasdar's attorney, Michael Nasatir, says he has no comment on the case.
