Q: After watching Gilbert Brown have another less than stellar performance against West Virginia, is there any reason to expect him to start being consistent? Considering his athletic prowess, it seems shameful that he can't put it together after this many years in the program.

Allen Jones, Pittsburgh

FITTIPALDO: I know Brown did not play great in regulation, but he was really good in the first, second and third overtimes of Pitt's 98-95 victory. He scored nine of his 16 points in the overtimes, including two clutch free throws with 28.8 seconds remaining in the third overtime that gave the Panthers the lead for good. And he did all of that with four personal fouls. In addition to scoring 16 points on 5-for-8 shooting, he also had one assist and no turnovers in 38 minutes. That's a pretty good stat line. I have been among the people who have drawn attention to Brown's inconsistencies, but I want to be fair, too. He was a major reason the Panthers were able to come back and win that game against the Mountaineers. If there is one complaint about Brown's performance against the Mountaineers it was this: one rebound. Brown is a power forward and he needs to start contributing a little more on the boards. Pitt has been out-rebounded in four of its past five Big East games and can use more help from Brown in that area.
