Saturday, November 21, 2009

A Greene County man has been charged with killing a 37-year-old woman in her home yesterday, apparently by strangulation.

State police charged Scott J. Baker, 37, of Nemacolin in the death of Melissa Ann Baker, 30, of Crucible, Cumberland Township, Greene County.

State Police said Ms. Baker died sometime between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. of "apparent trauma to the throat and/or airway." An autopsy is scheduled for today.

According to police, a witness saw Mr. Baker's vehicle at the victim's residence twice yesterday.

Another witness provided information that resulted in the arrest, according to a state police news release. Following arraignment, Mr. Baker was placed in the Greene County Jail without bail pending a preliminary hearing on Dec. 1.
