The West Mifflin Area school board will vote tomorrow night on the appointment of Assistant Superintendent Janet Sardon to superintendent.
Dr. Sardon has been with the district since January 2007. As assistant superintendent, she has been responsible for overseeing curriculum, special education, federal programs and technology. She also worked with the high school principal to implement the Project 720 high school reform initiative and served as chairwoman of the strategic planning and district design team.
Prior to coming to West Mifflin, Dr. Sardon was the director of information services and technology integration in the McKeesport Area School District, a position she was appointed to in July 2005.
For the previous 10 years, Dr. Sardon worked for the South Allegheny School District, where she started as a high school emotional support teacher, a position she held for four years before being named middle school dean of students, a post she filled from June 1999 to June 2000.
In July 2000, she became South Allegheny Middle School principal. Three years later, she was named South Allegheny High School principal.
She holds a bachelor of science degree in elementary and mentally/physically handicapped education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and master's and doctorate degrees in educational administration from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Sardon also holds a secondary principal certificate and a superintendent's letter of eligibility from Pitt.
