The McKeesport Heritage Center will host a special commemoration of female aviator Helen Richey on Saturday, on what would have been her 100th birthday.

There will be a ceremony at 1:30 p.m. at her gravesite in McKeesport-Versailles Cemetery. Ms. Richey, a native of McKeesport, helped break barriers for female pilots.

The commemoration will conclude a year-long celebration of her life, which includes an exhibit at the McKeesport Heritage Center, which will close Saturday. She died Jan. 7, 1947, in an apparent suicide.
