Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Police still are searching for a bank robber who used a bomb ploy to steal money in Armstrong County Friday.

The suspect is a white man with a pale complexion. He is in his 30s or 40s, standing between 5 feet, 7 inches and 6 feet tall, weighing between 150 and 175 pounds. He wore tan pants, a gray sweater and a tan fedora hat.

State police in Kittanning said the suspect, carrying an object in a white plastic bag, entered the F&M Bank in Hilltop Plaza in East Franklin at 5:50 p.m. Friday.

No customers were present at the time, said Trooper Richard Fennel.

The robber told a teller the bag contained a box with a bomb in it. He demanded loose money, or he would detonate the device.

The suspect left the bank after he took an undisclosed amount of money.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect's identity or whereabouts is asked to contact state police at 724-543-2011.
