The building that used to house Mount Gallitzin Academy in Baden could become the site of a new charter school.

The Baden Academy Charter School plans to seek a charter from the Ambridge Area School District to start a new charter school next fall.

The school would begin with grades K-3, including a program for 4-year-olds. In a news release, it describes the program as "a comprehensive, arts-infused elementary and middle school program (K-8) based on a classical education model."

The development of the application was paid for by the National Network of Digital Schools, a nonprofit management foundation whose work includes the Lincoln Interactive online curriculum. Mount Gallitzin Academy closed this year.

Charter schools are public schools that are chartered by a school district but run by a separate board. Students do not pay tuition, but home school districts pay a fee set by the state.
