The Center Area High School girls do not want their soccer program to end just yet.
With a loss resulting in the final girls' soccer game in school history, the Trojans (17-3-1) upset previously undefeated Villa Maria of Erie in the first round of the PIAA Class AA playoffs last night.
Center came back from a 2-0 first-half deficit for a 3-2 win at Erie Veterans' Stadium.
"This is the biggest win for these girls -- away vs. the No. 1 team in the state," Trojans coach Mark Perry said. "We rebounded and responded."
Villa Maria (20-1), the District 10 champion, was ranked No. 1 by pasoccercoaches.com. The Victors took a 2-0 lead, but Center's Addie Lucci scored the first of her two goals 35 seconds later. Lucci tied it 1:45 into the second half, and the winner for Center came on an own goal with 22 minutes to play in the game.
Madison Taylor assisted on both of Lucci's goals.
Center and Monaca high schools will combine to form Central Valley next school year.
