Supporters from neighborhoods facing the loss of their Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh branch will rally today at the Main Library in Oakland at 1 p.m.
Desiree Van Tassel, a spokeswoman for state Rep. Chelsa Wagner, D-Beechview, said yesterday that advocates for the preservation of the branches in Lawrenceville, Beechview, West End, Hazelwood and Carrick have indicated they will participate.
The library said in October it will close the first four branches by next year and merge Carrick with the Knoxville branch to save money.
Ms. Wagner's office is coordinating the rally, and she will hold a news conference tomorrow at 9:45 a.m. at the City-County Building, Downtown, to discuss the library's decision, Ms. Van Tassel said.
