Saturday, November 07, 2009

A trial was ordered yesterday for a man who was charged with homicide after he showed up at a hospital with a bullet wound from a shooting last month in the Hill District.

Lonnie Green, 19, has been held without bail in the Allegheny County Jail, pending trial in connection with the fatal shooting Oct. 14 of Rodriguez Simmons, 20.

Mr. Simmons was found dead at about 6:30 p.m. in a row house on Wandless Street in the Hill District.

A short time after the shooting, Mr. Green, of the Hill District, arrived at a hospital with gunshot wounds of the arm and leg.

Police said Mr. Green and Mr. Simmons had been at Wandless Street to complete a drug transaction when gunfire erupted and Mr. Green ran from the residence.

Mr. Green also will be tried on one count of illegal possession of a firearm.
