Jordan's shoe does not fit adidas' plans
Friday, November 06, 2009

Marcus Jordan stuck to his guns and wore his father's iconic Nike Air Jordans, a decision that has cost the University of Central Florida its six-year, $3 million exclusive contract with adidas.

Adidas spokeswoman Andrea Corso said in an e-mail to the Orlando Sentinel, "The University of Central Florida has chosen not to deliver on their contractual commitment to adidas. As a result, we have chosen not to continue our relationship with them moving forward."

UCF athletics director Keith Tribble said late Wednesday that he was surprised by the statement from adidas.

"There's really not much I can say because I don't know anything about it and have not heard anything official from adidas about our agreement," Tribble said.

Jordan, a freshman guard and son of NBA legend Michael Jordan, opted to wear Air Jordans during UCF's season opening exhibition game Wednesday night despite a controversy surrounding his footwear choices.

Pitt

Pitt has moved its season opener against Wofford from a 7 p.m. start to an 8:10 p.m. start Nov. 13 because it will celebrate its 31-win 2008-09 season with a banner-raising ceremony before the game. Pitt will raise an Elite Eight banner to the Petersen Event Center rafters honoring the accomplishment of making it to the fourth round of the NCAA tournament. It was only the second time in the modern era that Pitt reached the Elite Eight. Fans are being encouraged to be in their seats by 7:45 p.m.

Robert Morris

Karon Abraham and Velton Jones each had 12 points and Dallas Green added 11 as the Colonials downed Division II Shippensburg, 78-47, in an exhibition game last night at the Sewall Center in Moon.

Cincinnati

The NCAA cleared freshman highly touted 6-foot-5, 240-pound freshman Lance Stephenson to play at Cincinnati without having to miss any games.
