Mike Caputo, West Allegheny

This past week: Caputo had 207 yards rushing on 39 carries and four touchdowns to lead West Allegheny (7-2, 5-1), the Post-Gazette's fourth-ranked WPIAL Class AAA team, to a 35-22 win against Montour.

Check this out: Caputo, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound junior, is the second leading rusher in the WPIAL with 1,567 yards on 211 carries. He has scored 22 touchdowns for the Indians, who are seeded No. 4 in the WPIAL Class AAA playoff bracket.

What is the most difficult part about playing running back? Probably just thinking quick and choosing a hole. You've got to be strong physically, too.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? The motto of West Allegheny this year: Don't flinch. That means, to me, not to give up or not to stress out about something. Just work right through it, work around it.

What was it like going toe-to-toe against Hopewell running back Rushel Shell? It was pretty exciting. He's a great running back and pretty good on defense. It was real exciting to see what he had. I always like playing against a good team.

What are your early college plans? I have been getting letters, but they're just letters with information. I plan to go to a four-year college. Any [Division I] school. I don't have any favorites.

Where should people expect to find you in 10 years? I'd like to be either playing in the NFL or some pro team or probably an engineer. Not really quite sure about what type of engineering just yet.

People would be surprised to know that ... I am very quiet and reserved.

Jules Femiani, Peters Township

This past week: Femiani's overtime goal gave Peters Township a 1-0 victory against Fox Chapel in the WPIAL Class AAA girls' field hockey championship Monday.

Check this out: Femiani is the leading scorer for Peters Township and helped the Indians win their first WPIAL title. In the spring, she was one of the leading scorers on Peters Township's girls' lacrosse team that won a WPIAL title for the third year in a row. She has been on the lacrosse team since her freshman year but never tried field hockey until her sophomore year.

How did you get into field hockey? I used to play soccer, but then I ended up not playing soccer. So I didn't have anything to do in the fall. I wanted to be ready for lacrosse and I realized I needed to stay in shape. So I tried field hockey.

Why did you quit soccer? Well, actually I tried out for the soccer team [as a freshman] and got cut. That kind of forced me to quit. [Laughs].

How hard is it to score with that field hockey stick? It definitely takes some hand skills. It's hard. It's definitely harder to score in field hockey than lacrosse.

Ever play against a boy in field hockey? Yes. I don't remember what team, but it was kind of funny and weird. But we were just as rough as they were. It's kind of fun to beat a boy.

Other than lacrosse and field hockey, what is your favorite sport to watch? I really like hockey and baseball.

Baseball? How many Pirates can you name? Oh, gosh. I'm not very good at names.

Ever go to a Pirates game? Yes.

But you can't name any players? I can't remember who all has been traded.

It's 10 at night, and you're hungry. You're going to eat what? Probably fruit. Probably an apple.
