Urban League meeting to focus on black men in Pittsburgh
Thursday, November 05, 2009

The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh tomorrow will host its annual State of Black Pittsburgh job fair and a town hall meeting keynoted by Chicago-based journalist and commentator Roland Martin.

One year after a black man was elected president of the United States, the organization will focus on black men in the Steel City.

The event will be held at the Carnegie Mellon University Center at 5000 Forbes Ave., Squirrel Hill. The job and social services fair will begin at 3:30 p.m, and the town hall meeting will begin at 5:45 p.m. with Urban League President Esther Bush's "State of Black Pittsburgh" address.

Ms. Bush said employment is one of the Urban League's main concerns.

At the fair, participants will be able to meet representatives from employers like the U.S. Census, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and BNY Mellon Bank.

Ms. Bush said she expects several hundred people to attend tomorrow's event, which is free. Participants are required to RSVP by calling the Urban League at 412-227-4233.
