The new Student Fitness Center at the high school opened this week. The facility was made possible by a $10,000 Highmark Healthy High 5 grant and an additional $10,000 contribution by the district. A room previously being used for athletic storage was renovated for the center. Grant money was secured last spring and renovations began at the beginning of this school year. Renovations were done by maintenance workers.
Included are four spinning bikes, three elliptical climbers, weight training equipment and a climbing wall. Adjacent to the fitness center is an aerobic room for exercise classes with video projection equipment.
Physical education teacher Jason Beisler spearheaded the project and grant writing.
