Crafton Elementary sixth-graders will sponsor a schoolwide food drive through Nov. 20 for the food pantry at Crafton United Presbyterian Church.
They will organize the collection and distribution of items to the pantry at a time when food pantry supplies are dwindling due to economic conditions and the approach of colder weather and the holiday season.
Nonperishable food and items have been assigned to each grade -- kindergarten through six -- based on needs at the pantry such as boxes of macaroni and cheese, spaghetti sauce, boxed cereal, paper towels, and canned vegetables, fruit and soups.
Cornell High School has been awarded a $750 education grant from the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance Program for math and science initiatives at the secondary level.
Ed Szalankiewicz, of Handee Marts Inc., and Judy Sundquist, manager of the 7-Eleven Store on Neville Island, worked with school officials to secure the grant, which was made possible by funding through the ExxonMobil Corp.
Senior Alexis Hilewitz is organizing a family-themed magic show, "Magic and Illusion 2009," as her senior project at 7 p.m. Saturday in the David E. Williams Middle School, Porters Hollow Road, Kennedy.
The magician, Jason Christopher, a Montour High School graduate, incorporates comedy, an audience member floating in mid-air, a mind-reading raccoon and an indoor snowfall as part of his show.
Proceeds will benefit the high school bowling team.
Family passes are $20.00 (two adults and up to five children), $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Tickets are on sale for the high school drama club presentation of "Pinocchio" at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 12-14 and at 3 p.m. Nov. 15 in the high school auditorium, Beaver Grade Road.
Tickets are $6 for students and senior citizens and $8 for adults. Tickets will sold from 10:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today, from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday in the high school auditorium.
The performance trip to Florida, upcoming fundraising events, and information regarding future concert dates will be on the agenda for the Moon Band and Orchestra Parents meeting at 7 p.m. today in the high school.
Teacher contract negotiations with the South Fayette Education Association began Oct. 26 and will occur about every two weeks, according to the school board.
In January, collective bargaining will begin for support staff, including bus drivers, para-educators and custodians, he said.
Current contracts are set to expire June 30.
More than $2,000 has been raised for a scholarship fund created in the memory of Dr. Mary Ravita, the assistant superintendent who died earlier this year. Charlotte Smith, president of the independent, nonprofit South Fayette Foundation for Excellence, said the fund would supply two $500 awards to seniors in May.
The high school will present Irving Berlin's "White Christmas -- The Musical" at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 19, 20 and 21 in the high school theater.

Physical exams for middle and high school students participating in winter interscholastic sports will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and Nov. 18 in the middle school nurse's suite.
Athletes who have not had a fall sport physical must have one completed prior to the start of the winter sports season on Nov. 20. Reservations for a physical can be made by calling the athletic department, 724-695-5247.
