McDonald buys truck for street maintenance
Tuesday, November 03, 2009

McDonald council has agreed to borrow $66,000 to purchase and equip a new truck for plowing snow and maintaining roads.

The 2009 GMC TC5500 truck will allow the borough to tar and chip its streets rather than outsource the job.

"We'll be able to be more self-sufficient," Councilman Richard Moreau said last night.

Council last month voted to take out the five-year, 4.29-percent loan from First Commonwealth and purchase a truck chassis from W.W. Engine & Supply Inc., of Somerset, for $43,320.

The balance of the money will outfit the truck with a bed and hydraulics.

Mr. Moreau said the new truck will be ready in December, and the borough will sell its older, smaller truck, a 1999 Ford.
