SOUTH SIDE: City Council member Bruce Kraus and Merle Taylor, administrator of UPMC Mercy South Side, will conduct a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. at the hospital's outpatient center, first floor cafeteria. Mr. Taylor will discuss the services to be offered at the restructured center.

THURSDAY

SHADYSIDE: A reception to benefit BeadforLife, 4-7 p.m., Henne Jewelers, 5501 Walnut St. The reception will feature African music, food and beverages. BeadforLife helps impoverished Ugandan women earn a sustainable income by jewelry making. FRIDAY

OAKLAND: The Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh will sponsor a town hall meeting on the State of Black Pittsburgh at 5:45 p.m. in the McConomy Auditorium, University Center, Carnegie Mellon University. Presenters for the meeting will be Esther Bush, president of the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh, and journalist and author Roland Martin. Preceding the discussion will be a fair featuring exhibitors sharing job opportunities, health screenings, financial information. The fair will take place from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the University Center. Free but registration is advised, 412-227-4233.

SUNDAY

EAST LIBERTY: An interfaith dialogue, "Connecting Our Faith with the Death Penalty," will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the John Knox Room of the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, 616 N. Highland Ave. Representatives from six denominations will reflect on their respective teachings on the death penalty. The Rev. Donald Green, executive director of Christian Associates of Southwest Pennsylvania, will serve as moderator. The forum is sponsored by Pittsburgh Faith In Action Against The Death Penalty, an affiliate of Pennsylvanians For Alternatives to the Death Penalty. Free. 412-784-1677.
