Pittsburgh Revolution / Steve Mellon
Former LTV site, Hazelwood

It's still possible in this city to find reminders of our recent past. Here is an example: This office, in a small building located on the site of the former LTV Hazelwood Coke Plant, appears as if workers had just departed. Among the items strewn about are office papers (some with "LTV Railroads" on the letterhead), telephones, breathing masks, 1096 forms from the IRS and work boots. The calendar on the wall stops at September 2002. "WorldCom mess deepens," blares a headline on a yellowed Post-Gazette, dated Aug. 9 of that year. Wind causes the papers to flutter. Otherwise, the place is eerily silent.
