South Strabane supervisors can't agree where to build a new building for the road department and they want to hear suggestions from the public.
The board will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Nov. 10 in the municipal building. Residents living within 300 feet of Community Park will receive written notification.
A motion to build the new road shed in the northwest corner of Community Park on Floral Hill Drive failed by a 3-2 vote last night. Vice Chairman Ed Mazur made the motion. He and Chairman Thomas Moore voted to build a new shed there. Supervisors Robert Hollick, Robert Koman and Dan Piatt cast dissenting votes.
Mr. Piatt said he had received an offer of 5 acres near the intersection of routes 519 and 136 that would be donated to the township as the location for a new road shed. Mr. Hollick said he's always been opposed to constructing the building in the park.
Manager John Stickle said the previous board's intention for the land donated by Consol was to use it for a park, although there's nothing in the deed prohibiting the construction of a road shed. Mr. Mazur said there was an earlier master plan that included the road shed on park land.
