There will be a second Propel charter school operating in the Woodland Hills School District this fall as a result of a decision made yesterday by the Pennsylvania Charter School Appeal Board in Harrisburg.
The appeal board granted Propel a charter to open Propel Braddock Hills, overturning an earlier decision by the Woodland Hills school board to deny a second charter to Propel.
Propel already operates Propel East in Turtle Creek, which is an elementary school that serves 400 students in grades K-8.
Propel Braddock Hills will be located in the former Builder's Square building on Yost Boulevard and will eventually serve 800 students in grades K-12.
Jeremy Resnick, Propel Schools executive director, said there are currently 600 children on a waiting list for Propel East. System-wide, Propel has 1,500 children on waiting lists for its five schools.
In addition to Propel East, there are Propel charter elementary schools in Homestead, McKeesport and Kennedy and a high school in Munhall.
Yesterday's decision by the appeal board marked the fifth time that the board overturned decisions by local school boards and granted a charter to Propel.
