Closed for more than nine months, Main Street in the Irwin business district fully opened to traffic yesterday.
A federal- and state-mandated separation of sewer and storm water lines, which began in December, resulted in the closing of a three-block section of the street. The project missed a projected June/July completion date.
Borough engineer Lucien Bove said detour signs on Main Street will remain until Wednesday and two-way traffic on Oak Street will be in effect until then.
"Main Street is wide open," Mr. Bove said. "Although some minor work remains to be finished, light-up night [Nov. 19] will not be affected."
Work on side streets will continue, he said.
