Ginger Underwood and James Herring wed on August 1, 2009. They now reside in Marshall-Shadeland.
Q: How did you meet?
Ginger: We met at a bus stop. I was on my way to Keystone Plumbing to get a piece for my sink.
Q: Who introduced you?
Ginger: He's known me since 1993, but I never knew him. He used to do the landscaping at my home, but I was always at work, so we never met. All I knew was that my lawn always looked nice.
Q: Where did you each grow up?
Ginger: I grew up in the Hill District, Northview Heights, St. Clair Village. James grew up in Manchester and the lower North Side.
Q: Who proposed? How?
Ginger: James proposed in my office on October 3, 2008. He was anxious that I get my ring as soon as he picked it up. We had a romantic candlelight dinner once we got home. He picked out a great ring. I loved it immediately. It was doubly special because October 3 is the Obamas' wedding anniversary.
Q: Where were you married? Why did you choose that site?
Ginger: We were married at Bethel Assembly Church. I was baptized at Bethel.
Q: Where was the honeymoon? Why did you choose that site?
Ginger: The reception was at the Holy Ghost Social Hall and we honeymooned in Myrtle Beach. We chose the hall because it is located on the same street as our home. We chose Myrtle Beach because we're not fond of flying, but wanted a beachy honeymoon.
Q: Who was the oldest guest?
Ginger: James' Grandma Dell was the oldest. She is 83.
Q: What was new, blue, borrowed at your wedding?
Ginger: Everything was new. I had a blue rhinestone on my garter and I borrowed a vintage pin from a friend to place on my handkerchief.
Q: What was the funniest thing that happened?
Ginger: James' grandmother pushed my chair closer to him as he was singing, "I'm So Into You" by Peabo Bryson.
Q: Who is your favorite wedding vendor? Why?
Ginger: Heavenly Catering and Very Delicious Desserts. I had to pick two because the food was great and so was our cake. It was also beautiful.
Q: What was the most creative wedding present you were given?
Ginger: We were given two copies of Fireproof and two books for husbands and wives with poems and love stories.
Q: What's the best marriage advice you received?
Ginger: Communication is key.
Q: What is one item of your spouse's that you wish you could throw out?
Ginger: A pair of old pants that he wears occasionally.
Q: What is one thing you do solely because you love your spouse?
Ginger: Fix him nice dinners and then serve him.
Q: Anything else you'd like to add about your wedding day?
Ginger: We are older, (47 and 49 ), and feel blessed to have found each other at this stage of our lives. We believe that the best is yet to come.
