Wallenda crosses Allegheny in high-wire record
Friday, July 03, 2009

Despite the drizzly weather, high-wire daredevil Nik Wallenda completed his Guinness World Record-setting walk over the Allegheny River tonight as part of the weekend's Three Rivers Regatta.

Headlining the weekend regatta, Mr. Wallenda walked about 1,100 feet on a wire the diameter of a nickel 200 feet above the Allegheny River.

Spectators watched the act on the Robert Clemente Bridge, which was closed, and along the water.

The 10th Street Bypass was also closed for the event, regatta officials said.
