West Homestead man acquitted of sex registry charge
Friday, July 03, 2009

A man listed among the Allegheny County sheriff's department's "most wanted fugitives" when he was arrested last year for failing to register as a sex offender was found not guilty of the crime in May.

Spencer Spiker, 37, of West Homestead, pleaded guilty in June 2009 to charges of indecent assault of a person younger than 13 and endangering the welfare of a child stemming from an incident a year earlier. Deputies arrested him in July 2009 after saying he hadn't registered as a sex offender.

Judge Anthony Mariani found him not guilty during a non-jury trial in May on the registration charge and court records show Mr. Spiker is working to have the charges expunged from his record.

Mr. Spiker's attorney, Todd Hollis, said his client believed he had registered as a sex offender but hadn't and refused to plead guilty to the charge.
