Thanks to several California University of Pennsylvania geographic information systems students, residents in Springdale can sleep better at night.
Student Jessica Wright and recent graduates Stacey Stanley and Lisa Leyh used surveys and other information to map an area including about 1,856 homes for the Springdale Volunteer Fire Department, which will use the information to locate homes and other data quickly.
Using laptops, firefighters can identify properties, along with other information, such as the number of pets, entrances, exits, utility providers, chemicals in the house such as chlorine for pools or gas or propane grills, and even the closest hydrant.
