A Swissvale woman who stabbed her boyfriend to death was sentenced to 3 to 8 years in prison today.
Yvonne Fields, 37, came upon Shareif Deanda in bed with Monaye Blair in the early hours of Sept. 2, 2008, at Mr. Deanda's grandmother's house in Lincoln-Lemington. Ms. Fields stabbed Mr. Deanda, 33, in the throat. She pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in April.
The two had an abusive relationship, Assistant District Attorney Mike Pradines said at the sentencing hearing. Mr. Pradines said Mr. Deanda told Ms. Blair he had beaten Ms. Fields before, including with a fireplace poker. Mr. Deanda also told Ms. Blair that Ms. Fields had stabbed him before.
"This was one of the most dysfunctional relationships I've ever heard of," Mr. Pradines said.
Common Pleas Judge Kathleen A. Durkin said she took the evidence of abuse into consideration when deciding on the sentence, which was below the guideline range.
A tearful Ms. Fields apologized to her family and that of the deceased.
