Man killed in car crash in Green Township
Wednesday, July 01, 2009

An Indiana County man was killed in a one-vehicle crash Monday night in Green Township, state police said.

State police said Jody Ferrier, 35, of Commodore, was the driver. He suffered fatal injuries when he was ejected from the vehicle after it crashed at 7:47 p.m. on Fir Road in Green Township.

The other occupant, Judy McCombs, also of Commodore, suffered minor injuries, the coroner said.

The truck was speeding on Fir Road as it approached Route 286 and the driver lost control.

The pickup crossed the road and struck a utility pole. It proceeded on and the passenger side slammed into a tree, causing it to spin and crash into two more poles on the driver's side.

Mr. Ferrier was thrown through the rear window of the truck.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:36 p.m., Indiana County Coroner Michael A. Baker said. An autopsy was to be conducted later yesterday to determine the cause of death.

Ms. McCombs, whose age was not given, was taken to Indiana Regional Medical Center where she was treated and released.
