Thursday, June 25, 2009

George Willhoft Jr., the man who died yesterday after being swept over the Ohiopyle Falls, was a hard worker who loved the outdoors, according to relatives.

Mr. Willhoft, 20, of Washington, Pa., loved to hunt and fish, according to information provided by relatives to William G. Neal Funeral Homes, where services will be held.

Until last year, Mr. Willhoft worked with his father at Rush Architectural Metal Erectors, a roofing company in Washington. He helped construct metal siding for the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio where his father, George Willhoft Sr., was foreman.

"He was a young, ambitious kid," said Albert Rush, owner of R.A.M.E. "He was a good worker."

Mr. Willhoft worked at R.A.M.E. for about a year after graduating from McKeesport High School in 2007.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his mother, Tina Garrett, of Washington; six siblings, Justin, John, Brian, Christine, Samantha and Victoria Willhoft, all of Washington; two step-siblings, Tyler and Kylie Ranegar, both of Independence; and grandmothers Linda McGowan, of Washington, and Mary Willhoft, of Eighty Four.

Services will be held 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday at Neal Funeral Homes, 925 Allison Ave., Washington. A funeral will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions can be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
