The Hatfield's Ferry Power Station will be able to proceed with an emissions control project thanks to $260 million in state bonds approved recently by the Pennsylvania Economic Development Financing Authority.
"This project will enable Allegheny Energy Supply Co. to continue to burn high sulfur coal while reducing emissions 98 to 99 percent by installing scrubbers at the Hatfield's Ferry facility. This is a benefit to the company, the community and the environment," said state Rep. Bill DeWeese, D-Waynesburg.
Allegheny Energy owns the power facility.
The project is expected to create 36 jobs at the Monongahela, Greene County, location.
The bond funding was requested by the Greene County Industrial Development Authority and will be issued by PEDFA.
