A wise match

They weren't the only couple to be married Saturday in Murrysville. And their joy may have been no greater than the others.

But the Sharp-Scimio nuptials were the most interesting.

Sharon Sharp, 75, and Leonard Scimio, 79, were united at Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church. The reception was at Redstone Highlands, the senior living community in Murrysville where they had been residing. It was the second marriage for both.

They met about a year and a half ago, when Mr. Scimio arrived from Gibsonia. Redstone Highlands has a resident mentoring program, in which a new resident is paired with someone who had been living there. The intent is to ease the newbie's transition to a new home.

The erstwhile Mrs. Sharp, formerly of Avonmore, became Mr. Scimio's mentor. She took him to dinner, introduced him to staff and other residents and took him around the place.

Mentoring eventually led to matrimony. The couple were engaged less than 12 months after they were introduced.

Potpourri

• Francine Hymes, 64, of North Versailles, got one of the four Director's Awards from the Foster Grandparents Program of Southwestern Pennsylvania. • Nicholas S. Vaskov, a parishioner at St. Bernadette Church, Monroeville, is among four who will be ordained to the priesthood Saturday by Bishop David Zubik of the Pittsburgh Catholic Diocese. The ceremony for Deacon Vaskov, 26, and the others will begin at 10 a.m. in St. Paul Cathedral, Oakland.
