Sweet music, sweet treats

The Ellwood City Area Civic Chorale will perform at 7:30 p.m. today as part of the 33rd season of summer programming at the Penn State Beaver Brodhead Cultural Center on the Penn State Beaver campus in Center.

The performance will be in the J.P. Giusti Amphitheater, Brodhead Road. The rain date is tomorrow.

Also, the Renaissance Rhythm Chorus and Sweet Adelines will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

And the Beaver Bop Cats will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The concert will be preceded by a Penn State Creamery Ice Cream sale starting at 6.

Sales are sponsored by the Beaver Valley Area Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association and all proceeds benefit scholarships for Penn State Beaver students.

The Mill Creek Valley Historical Association will staff and host free tours of the Baker-Dungan Museum, located on the hill overlooking the Cultural Center's amphitheater.

The museum, which is free and open for one hour prior to all shows except the musical, contains a variety of local historical artifacts, tools furniture, clothing, and other displays.

Beaver advisory board

Four new members have been named to the Penn State Beaver Advisory Board:

Nick Andrews, president and owner, Andrews Industrial Controls Inc.; state Rep. Jim Christiana, R-Beaver; state Rep. Rob Matzie, D-Ambridge; and state Rep. Elder Vogel Jr., R-New Sewickley.

Officers include board President John Hertneky, continuous improvement manager at Bayer Material Science LLC; President-elect John J. Feraco, manufacturing team leader, NOVA Chemicals Inc.; Vice President Arlene Bell, director of community health services, Heritage Valley Health System; and Secretary Gary Keefer, Beaver chancellor.

St. Clair Hospital awards

The Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania has named St. Clair Hospital as a dual winner in its achievement awards program.

The winning patient care entry was titled "Achieving American College of Cardiology Guidelines for Management of Patients with ST-Elevation Myocardial Infaction." The cardiac catheterization lab has been recognized for its ability to treat heart attack victims with balloon angioplasty.

The operational excellence entry was titled "Improving Patient Flow in the Emergency Department Using Toyota-Based Methods."
