A water main break yesterday in Chateau Street on the North Side left a 25-foot-wide hole in the roadway, prompting the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority to shut down the street until repairs can be made.
PWSA discovered the 8-inch main break earlier in the day near the entrance to Route 65 north. The break, in turn, caused an 18-inch sewer to collapse, leaving a hole in the road approximately 25 feet wide and 15 feet deep, PWSA officials said.
Chateau Street will be closed today and detours will be posted.
Repairs are expected to be completed by 6 tonight.
One business was affected by the break, according to the PWSA.
