Saturday, April 18, 2009

A 27-year-old man was killed and the passenger in his car was injured in a one-vehicle accident yesterday in Somerset County.

State police identified the victim as Gary J. Molitsky of Patton, Cambria County. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

A passenger, Philip G. Reich, 27, of Meyersdale, Somserset County, who was wearing a seatbelt, was taken by ambulance to Conemaugh Hospital in Johnstown, Cambria County, with non-life-threatening injuries, state police said

According to police, the crash occurred about 3:10 p.m. on East Mud Pike Road near Bognar Road. Mr. Molitsky was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control and drove into the oncoming lane as his Pontiac Grand Am went over a small rise in the roadway. Mr. Molitsky over-corrected on the swerve and the vehicle started to spin clockwise as it returned to the correct side of the roadway.

The vehicle struck an embankment, went airborne, struck trees and shrubs as it rolled through a small wood line and out into a field, state police said.

Mr. Molitsky was taken by hospital to Conemaugh Hospital where he died.
