The state Department of Environmental Protection is using fans in an attempt to clear McKees Rocks' sanitary-sewer system of gasoline fumes.
The fumes were produced by the spill of about 100 gallons of gas at the BP station in the 800 block of Island Avenue this morning. Allegheny County 911 said a tanker truck was filling an underground tank when the gas spilled about 11 a.m.
Runoff from the rain this morning carried some of the gas into the sewer system, and 10 to 15 residents in the area complained of an odor of gas in their homes, the county said.
No injuries have been reported, but an evacuation center has been set up at the Stowe Township firehouse for anyone who is bothered by the odor.
