Former Pittsburgh Councilwoman Twanda Carlisle was released from a half-way house on parole today.
She will have to avoid any association with the three co-defendants in the kickback scheme in which she converted city consulting money into cash for her personal and campaign accounts. She won't be allowed to take any job that involves access to other peoples' money, said Leo Dunn, spokesman for the state Board of Probation and Parole.
The board set today as Ms. Carlisle's earliest possible parole date on Dec. 16, he said. "Most of the reasons why she was given parole are kind of commonplace. She completed all of her institutional programs that they told her to do. She had positive institutional behavior." She was also viewed as an acceptable risk in the community, and "accepted responsibility and stated remorse," Mr. Dunn said.
She will be on parole until March 10, 2010.
