Pirates pick new play-by-play announcer
Thursday, December 18, 2008

The Pirates this morning chose Denver's Tim Neverett to replace Lanny Frattare in the broadcast booth and do play-by-play, along with Greg Brown.

Neverett, 42, previously worked for FSN Rocky Mountain as a play-by-play man on Colorado Rockies games and was also a pregame and postgame host. He also worked for Versus and the Mountain West Conference Sports Network in broadcasting college football and basketball games.

Before that, he called more than 1,000 minor league and college baseball games.

"We conducted an exhaustive research that included more than 200 candidates," Pirates president Frank Coonelly said. "Tim's ability, combined with his work ethic, passion for baseball and desire to make a positive impact in the community, made him the ideal addition to our broadcast team."

"It's an honor and a privilege to have an opportunity to bring Pirates baseball to the fans of Pittsburgh," Neverett said in a statement.

More details in tomorrow's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
