Q: Has Pitt really "turned the corner" as everyone likes to say? If you examine their record this year, they could have easily lost to Iowa, Syracuse, and Buffalo along with the embarrassing losses to Bowling Green and Rutgers. Further, the shine is certainly off the South Florida and Notre Dame wins, both of which came against bad teams. Isn't this year's squad pretty much the same thing we've been seeing for the past two decades?
Jeff Cohen, Sarver
ZEISE: Tough to say. I think the next two weeks will tell us a lot more about this team than anything we've seen to this point. I think it is imperative that Pitt wins at least one of the two remaining games to validate the idea that this has been a "turn the corner" kind of year because a 7-5 season at this juncture, with this roster, probably raises a lot more questions than it does offer solutions or answers about the future of this program and the direction of this program. I think that is a question that we will know a lot better answer to at about 4 p.m. today???.
Q: What happened to Bill Stull? I thought after having a very shaky start to the season he played very well against Rutgers, too bad the 'D' stunk, and L-Ville. But against Cincinnati, he looked like a dear in head lights, his passes all looked like floaters in the first half and he had no pocket awareness. He took some bad sacks and down the stretch it only got worse. Was he just nervous in his first "Big Game?"
Jon F., Reading
ZEISE: No his first big game came against Iowa, and then South Florida and then Louisville - and he did well enough. I don't think he was nervous, I don't think he was panicked, I think he just didn't play well. He clearly held the ball too long a few times and he missed some easy passes, but that is what happens sometimes, guys just don't play well for whatever reason. I do think this -- he didn't get a lot of help from his receivers in that game as they dropped too many passes for anyone's good. Stull will be fine and like I've written before, he is what he is -- I don't think by any stretch he is a great quarterback, but he is by far Pitt's best option so the Panthers fate is in his hands.
Q: With Pitt essentially out of a BCS bowl chance do you think we will see more of Pat Bostick? I am sorry but I do not see improvement from Stull week to week. Consistently high or under thrown passes. He has zero accuracy and does not seem to make good decisions on his passes. When do we see the QB of the future?
Tony Burghman, White Oak
ZEISE: No, why would we see more of Pat Bostick? And more importantly, why would we want to see more of Pat Bostick? Look, I know Bill Stull didn't play well last week but my, goodness, this team is 7-3 -- a team that hasn't been to a bowl game in three years already has seven wins and has played well more than not -- there is no reason to throw that out the window and start panicking with silly personnel decisions. The guys who have got Pitt here will and should continue to play. Yes, the Panthers can't go to the BCS but they have a lot to play for still and need to put the players in the game which give them the best chance to win.
