Steelers beat Chargers, 11-10
Sunday, November 16, 2008

In a wild finish, Jeff Reed kicked a 32-yard field goal with 11 seconds left to give the Steelers an 11-10 victory over the San Diego Chargers tonight at Heinz Field.

Troy Polamalu ran back a fumbled Chargers pass in the waning seconds but officials overruled any score on the play.

After Nate Kaeding kicked a 22-yard field goal with 6:41 left to give San Diego a 10-8 lead, the Steelers took over at their 13 to start their winning drive.

The Steelers' drive took 13 plays, covered 73 yards and took six-and-a-half minutes.

The Steelers led the Chargers, 8-7, at the end of the third quarter.

The Steelers took their first lead of the game with 8:41 left in the quarter when Reed kicked a 41-yard field goal.

Nate Kaeding missed a 42-yard field goal for the Chargers.

The Chargers led the Steelers 7-5 at halftime.

The Steelers have their defense to thank for both scores, and James Harrison was part of both.

Harrison stripped Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers of the ball in the end zone, the Chargers recovered and the Steelers had a 2-point safety.

Then, with San Diego driving toward a possible bigger lead at the Steelers 17, Harrison intercepted Rivers and returned it 33 yards to the Pittsburgh 43. That led to a 21-yard field goal by Reed with no time left in the half.

San Diego held a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

LaDainian Tomlinson ran three yards for the only score of the opening quarter with 6:46 left.

The Steelers lost a chance to tie when, after having a first down at San Diego's four, they went for it on fourth down and half a foot to go. Mewelde Moore was stopped short on a run off the left side.
