A basketball player died last week during a break at practice at the Community College of Beaver County.
Tamir Phillips, a freshman who majored in social work, had been at practice Thursday at the CCBC Dome in Center Township when he collapsed, college officials said.
Attempts were made at the time to revive Mr. Phillips before he was taken to the Medical Center of Beaver County, where he was pronounced dead.
Beaver County Coroner Teri Tatalovich-Rossi said toxicology and other tests still are being done to determine the cause of death. Mr. Phillips may have suffered from a congenital heart condition, she said.
Mr. Phillips, who was recruited from Philadelphia to play basketball at CCBC, had been living in Monaca.
The school summoned specialized counselors, who were available on campus today for students, faculty and staff.
