WPIAL Class AAA: No. 2 Highlands remains undefeated with 10-7 win

David Buterbaugh kicked an 18-yard field goal with three seconds left last night as No. 2 Highlands remained the only unbeaten team in Class AAA with a 10-7 win against visiting Franklin Regional in the Greater Allegheny Conference.

The Golden Rams (7-0, 3-0) opened the scoring with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Jeff Sinclair to Brendan Lucchino in the first quarter.

The Panthers (4-3, 1-2) tied the score, 7-7, with a 7-yard pass from Anthony Vendemia to D.J. Capezzuto in the second quarter.

Sinclair completed 9 of 17 passes for 103 yards. Vendemia completed 8 of 16 passes for 153 yards.

OTHER GAMES

Blackhawk 32 Montour 28

Zach Hayward threw four touchdown passes, including three in the second half, as No. 4 Blackhawk (6-1, 3-1) rallied from an 18-point deficit to post a road victory against Montour (4-3, 2-2) in the Parkway Conference. Hayward completed 25 of 36 passes for 308 yards, including eight for 111 yards and two scores to Jake Delmonico. Montour's Milton Banks scored on a 54-yard interception return and a 44-yard pass from E.J. Banks.

New Castle 40 Moon 6

Michael Bongivengo threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more touchdowns as New Castle (4-3, 4-1) dominated Moon (0-7, 0-4) in the Parkway Conference. Bongivengo completed 15 of 20 passes for 164 yards and connected with Brandon Burley and Justin Fleo on scoring passes of 13 and 8 yards, respectively. Keith Keene rushed for 134 yards on seven carries and scored on runs of 50 and 61 yards for the Red Hurricanes.

Ringgold 33 Belle Vernon 13

Simon Bekavac rushed for 284 yards on 24 carries and scored on runs of 84 and 13 yards to lead the Rams (5-2, 2-2) to a Big Seven Conference win against the visiting Leopards (3-4, 1-3). Jake Spazianni capped the Rams' scoring with a 90-yard interception return.

Trinity 33 West Mifflin 20

Andrew Steratore threw for one touchdown and ran for another to lead Trinity (3-4, 2-3) to a Big Seven Conference win against visiting West Mifflin (2-5, 1-3). Steratore completed 10 of 13 passes for 100 yards and connected with Jack Jamerson on a 13-yard scoring pass. Imir Sanders scored on a pair of 1-yard runs for the Titans.

Mars 42 Hampton 7

Austin Miele and Kevin Randolph combined to rush for 242 yards and 5 five touchdowns, as Mars (5-2, 2-1) rolled to an easy victory against visiting Hampton (1-6, 1-2) in the Greater Allegheny Conference. Randolph had 126 yards and scored on runs of 83 and 43 yards. Miele rushed for 116 yards and scored on runs of 3, 28, and 61. Hampton's Jeff Cully threw for 119 yards, but he also threw three interceptions.

Indiana 34 Knoch 20

The Little Indians (5-2, 1-2) ended a two-game losing streak and captured their first Greater Allegheny Conference victory in this road game at Knoch (2-5, 1-2).

Laurel Highlands 43 Albert Gallatin 14

The Mustangs (3-4, 3-1) scored 36 points in the first half and easily defeated the visiting Colonials (2-5, 1-4) in the Keystone Conference. Tim Bradley led Laurel Highlands, rushing for 203 yards and two touchdowns. Bradley scored on runs of 65 and 1 yard.

Greensburg Salem 42 Southmoreland 12

Jerry Cooley scored on runs of 37, 16, 5, and 14 yards to lead the Golden Lions (4-3, 3-1) to a convincing Keystone Conference win at Southmoreland (0-7, 0-4). Cooley rushed for 151 yards on 15 carries. Southmoreland's Mike Stokes rushed for 103 yards on 20 carries. The Scotties have been outscored, 320-44.

Uniontown 40 Yough 21

Doug Sanner threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third as Uniontown (5-2, 3-1) handed Yough (4-3, 4-1) its first Keystone Conference loss. Sanner completed 8 of 14 passes for 152 yards and connected with Brian Grady on scoring passes of 69 and 27 yards.

Elizabeth Forward 38 Derry 19

The Warriors (4-3) ended a three-game losing streak with this non-conference win against Derry (2-5). Josh Pomilio and Gerald Johnson combined for 277 yards and four touchdowns on the ground for the Warriors. Pomilio had 155 yards, Johnson had 122, and each scored twice.
