Much of Point State Park will be closed during tonight's "Imagine Pittsburgh" fireworks display. The show will begin at 10 p.m.
Organizers of the event say the best places to see the 30-minute display will be Mount Washington, the North Shore and Station Square.
The park, which is undergoing renovations, will be closed between the fountain and portal bridge. The area along PNC Park, near the Allegheny River and one of the pyrotechnic launch sites, also will be closed.
Fireworks will be accompanied by a soundtrack featuring local artists. The music will be broadcast live on KDKA Radio, 1020 AM. The show can be seen on tape around 11:30 p.m. on WTAE-TV. The exact air time will depend on when the Ohio State-Wisconsin football game ends.
Pittsburgh Pops conductor and composer Marvin Hamlisch has joined the talent lineup for the Pittsburgh Born & Bred concert, which will run from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the Point State Park stage. Hamlisch is scheduled to perform around 6:30 p.m.
The Port Authority will operate two-car trains on the T during the day and evening today and will add additional trains later in the afternoon and evening to handle crowds attending the fireworks show.
Shuttle buses will operate between Grandview Avenue and Carson Street to augment Monongahela Incline service.
