Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural masterpiece is magnificent any time of day, but it's a rare treat to see it sparkle at twilight, when it's generally closed to the public. That's the appeal of the annual Twilight Tour and Evening of Jazz, which was Aug. 23 on the grounds of Fallingwater. Wine and cheese on the bridge was followed by a gourmet picnic and the vocal stylings of Lisa Ferraro, all to benefit the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.
Enjoying the fresh air were Jim and Francine Abraham, Barbara Bott and Robert Jennings, board chair E. Michael and Susan Boyle, James and Rebecca Denova, Robert and Vicky Kamin, Steve Robinson, Judy and Michael Cheteyan, and David and Brenda Roger. A special treat was the presence of 94-year-old Elsie Henderson, who served as the cook for the Kaufmann family for 15 years at Fallingwater, beginning in 1947. "The Fallingwater Cookbook: Elsie Henderson's Recipes & Memories" will be published in mid-October by the University of Pittsburgh Press. It was written by former PG food editor Suzanne Martinson, late food writer Jane Citron and event planner/chef Bob Sendall. Look for it in local bookstores and online at Amazon.com.
