The longer, new on-ramp to Interstate 79 north from Route 50 in Bridgeville (Exit 54) will be open to traffic this morning.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation plans to begin shifting traffic at 4 a.m. and completing the process by 6 a.m., so it's possible that drivers will be delayed or temporarily stopped during that period.
Additional work to install new concrete barriers will start on Tuesday, following the Labor Day holiday weekend, causing minor daytime restrictions through early October.
PennDOT has spent $6.1 million to upgrade the interchange by building the new ramp, which required a new bridge over Chartiers Creek.
