Daniel Iracki's resignation from the Upper St. Clair school board last week leaves the district searching for a replacement for the second time in about nine months.
In a statement faxed to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Superintendent Patrick O'Toole and to his fellow board members, among others, Dr. Iracki expressed concerns about the recent hiring of P.J. Dick as construction manager for the ongoing middle schools renovation project.
But his bigger regret, he wrote, was the current board's restoration of the controversial international baccalaureate program: "I urge those who support IB to search their hearts and consciences concerning this issue and that it be eliminated from our schools."
Dr. Iracki's term, his first, was to end in 2009.
As it did last December, when David Bluey resigned in anticipation of moving from Pittsburgh, the school district will advertise the opening, then hold public interviews. School board members will vote on his replacement after that.
Dates have not been established, although Dr. O'Toole said this will be a topic of discussion at the district's monthly board meeting Aug. 25.
The district has 30 days in which to replace Dr. Iracki. When put to the board, the new candidate must receive at least five votes. If not, the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas can appoint the replacement.
